Demystifying psychedelics for mental health: what it is, what it isn’t, and who it’s for

Description:

In recent years the proposed benefits and usage of psychedelics as a mental health intervention has been gaining traction. With positive research trending around psychedelic use for “treatment resistant depression”, trauma, and substance use, our greater communities are becoming curious. This presentation will explore the science, benefits, and risks for utilizing psychedelics for mental health concerns, primarily the protocol of “Psychedelic Assisted Therapy”, which combines the use of psychedelics with traditional psychotherapy. This presentation seeks to demystify the use of psychedelics, including exploring historical use and misuse, the indigenous roots for this work, and current laws and use in Minnesota. Recommended protocol for “Psychedelic Assisted Therapy” will be outlined and explored.

Objectives:

-Learn and identify the protocol for Psychedelic Assisted Therapy

-Explore the history of the use of psychedelics for mental health, as well as the misinformation

-Learn and understand the current neuroscience research of psychedelics on the brain and neuropathways

-Explore and honor the indigenous roots of psychedelics as plant medicine/healing medicines

Grief Therapy: Yours, Theirs, Ours

Presentation Description: In this presentation, participants will receive an overview of grief therapy and the neuroscience of grief. We will define what grief is, means, and can look like. We will explore what complicates grief, and ways to assess factors that could complicate or ease grief. An exploration of possible interventions will be a part of this presentation, though we will work to amplify connections that could help you look through the lens of your own modalities and how to use them as interventions to attend to grief. We will also talk about the grief we as clinicians experience when we lose a client, whether that is through death, termination, or anywhere in between. Considerations around confidentiality, connection, moral injury, and connection to burnout will also be discussed.

Objectives:

-Define grief and grief responses

-Identify assessment strategies for aspects that complicate or ease grief

-Define ambiguous loss

-Explore considerations associated with client loss
